Johnny Mercer, MP for Plymouth Moor View, stated:
“I have been clear that Plymouth’s dental provision is in an unacceptable state. Last November, I facilitated free dental appointments for schoolkids at Peninsula Dental School. Progress until now has been frustratingly slow. However, with national and local dental plans launched in the past week, we have seen headway made at last.
“I welcome the Government’s NHS Dental Recovery Plan which includes a raft of measures to create 2.5m extra appointments and helps areas like ours where recruitment is difficult. Supported by £200m of government funding, dentists will recieve additional payments of £15-£50 to treat new patients; 240 dentists will be offered a £20,000 payment to serve priority areas; dental training places will be increased up to 40 percent by 2030/31; and dental vans will be launched.
“The Government’s national plan for dentistry will complement our local one. Last week, the cross-party Dental Task Force which I sit on agreed three key local priorities: a new dental facility for Peninsula; additional dental funding for Plymouth City Council; and the use of NHS dental underspend. I am determined to see the group get on and deliver these local solutions for our City.
“If, for any reason, you are in need of dental care but are unable to see a dentist in Plymouth Moor View, please get in touch and I will do all I can to help locally and raise your concerns in Parliament. Email johnny@johnnyforplymouth.co.uk or call 01752 876979.”
